Dr Nick Ryan has been working with colleagues in Classical and Archaeological Studies to produce a simple visitor guide system for smart phones. The system has been developed to complement on-line and paper based guides to Canterbury's heritage produced by Celine Murphy and Lloyd Bosworth of Classical and Archaeological Studies in partnership with Westgate Towers Museum.
Using the phone's built-in GPS receiver to locate the visitor, and Google Maps technology to present a suggested route between sites of heritage interest in the City, the guide provides direct links to web pages describing each site in greater detail. The first use of the guide will be during the Council for British Archeology's Festival of British Archaeology. This work represents one of the first collaborative outcomes of The Heritage Innovation Network at Kent (THINK).
