IAESTE: International Work Experience

The School of Computing regularly particiaptes in the IAESTE scheme which is the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience. We offer a summer placement to a student from overseas and at least one of our students can work abroad during the summer vacation.

IAESTE students get excellent opportunities for experiencing the environment and culture of the host country.

  • On IAESTE placement for 3 months over the summer, 2009
  • Placement with software company Pincom based in Mostar, Herzegovina, Bosnia

" I would definitely recommend it, not only to computing students but to everyone. It was such a great learning experience, that allowed me to combine the theory I learnt in university with teamwork and put it into practice. Being out your comfort zones really improves your character. IAESTE helped a lot with the organisation and it was great as they always kept me informed. "

Student visitor to Kent - summer 2009

This year we welcomed Daniel Brasil Magnani from Brazil to the School of Computing. He spent his 8 weeks at Kent working on a project to add authorisation to Subversion (subversion.tigris.org), a very popular open source version control system.

The project work was supervised by Professor David Chadwick and Daniel was supported by members of the Information Systems Security Research Group.

Over the past eight years, the School of Computing has employed students from Finland, Kazakhstan, USA, Switzerland, Hungary, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Brazil for ten weeks during the summer. They work with academic members of the School on research projects. It is because we find the scheme so successful that we have continued with it.

Under the same scheme, our students have worked abroad in Canada, Norway, Finland, Hungary, Brazil, Germany, Kenya, Japan, Macedonia and Bosnia.
