Publications

My publications are available from the Computer Science department publications repository.

Research Interests

I belong to the following research groups:

I started out as a mathematician and have a number of publications on number theory and group theory. As a computer scientist I have worked in a number of research areas, including software-tools, graph-visualisation and information-retrieval. Recently, most of my time has been spent on practical web-based information systems, including a cartoon database, an English literature bibliography database and our own exam support system. I am also collaborating with the Psychology department on software to do online experiments in face recognition.

Teaching

These days I mostly teach programming and algorithms to second-year undergraduates and post-graduates. Languages that I have taught recently include Java, Javascript, C, PHP, Python and Perl.

Away from Work

I live in Whitstable with my partner, daughter and dogs.
