Robotics Lab Units
In addition to the Lego Mindstorms, which have already proven themselves in the area of Computer Science Education, the Computer Science Department is now also equipped with a number of small mobile units and a larger programmable mobile unit. The Pioneer DX3 is intended to expand the possibility of applied research, allowing for some theoretical research to have real application platforms. With this in mind, the unit is equipped with a variety of sensor modalities, namely an industry standard laser scanner, range sonars, a gyroscope, a pan-tilt-zoom camera and a gripper. In addition, a docking station for the unit also exists allowing for long-term experiments using laser navigation. Extra support equipment is available making possible to run both offline experiments and simulations.
