Key Aims

The Applied and Interdisciplinary research group works in a number of areas which apply computational ideas to exciting problems in a wide range of scientific areas.

The group has strong links with other departments at the University of Kent, as well as with universities, hospitals and scientific research institutes throughout the country and internationally.

Areas of Research Activity

Research grants associated with members of this group are available. Members are engaged in the following areas of research (research areas in more detail) .

*  Bio-Inspired Computing - Genetic Algorithms, Swarm Intelligence, Artificial Neural Networks. *  Application of computational simulations in biology and medicine.
*  Systems biology and bioinformatics *  Theory and applications of visualisation
*  Data mining and knowledge discovery *  Computational methods in astrophysics

Some suggestions of possible postgraduate research projects are also available.
