The Computing Laboratory has a well deserved reputation for pursuing world class research.

Research Groups and Possible Research Projects

The Computing Laboratory houses seven major research groups. Every member of staff and postgraduate student is a member of a group, and cross-group research projects are encouraged. We welcome research collaboration and research students in a wide range of fields. The groups provide the supportive framework which is particularly important to someone starting out in research for the first time. They offer advice and guidance on how to approach the research (reading, planning), the technical aspects of the research, how to get your research published and help with preparing and practising talks.

EPSRC Sponsored PhD Research Studentship
to improve garbage collection for Java by exploiting hardware parallelism on current and emerging platforms.
3 years of funding,   tuition fees paid,   13,290 per annum (tax free) as a stipend
This research is part of the EPSRC Garbage Collection for Multicore Systems project led by Richard Jones and Fred Barnes.
