We do world-leading researchOur staff include world-leading researchers in key areas, such as systems security, communications and computing education, and interdisciplinary work with biosciences and psychology. In the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008) 65% of the School's research was judged as world leading or internationally excellent, with a further 30% judged as internationally recognised. Our advanced courses are based around the latest researchYou will get a chance to study subjects close to the leading edge of computing research. We offer modules relating to our research specialities in areas such as cognitive neural networks, advanced programming techniques, computer graphics and animation, computer security and cryptography, concurrency design and practice, data mining and knowledge discovery, human computer interaction, and mobile and ubiquitous computing. The modules are very well received by students, as the staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what they are teaching. Find out more about the modules currently offered in our degree programmes. Our students do amazing projects in their final yearIn your final year you can choose to do an individual project which has a research focus or choose to do a group or consultancy project which tests your ability to complete work with a commercial focus. Research led projects are suggested by staff who are experts in the research area and some have led to publications in peer reviewed conferences. In addition, each year, a few undergraduates also contribute to research by taking internships, where students are paid to work on research tasks over the summer vacation. You can get involved with research in the SchoolAs an undergraduate, you are welcome to attend the regular School of Computing seminars given by distinguished visitors. Each research group has a seminar programme, and you can turn up to any that interest you. Take a look at the School seminar programme.
