Taught Masters course formats

Each of our taught MSc courses is available in several formats to accommodate students from different backgrounds and to provide maximum flexibility.

Standard Masters

Standard MSc courses are suitable for graduates with a good Honours degree or an equivalent qualification (more about entry requirements).

2 Industrial placement (optional) Practical work experience (paid) 8 - 50

During the Autumn and Spring terms, full-time students attend campus from Monday to Friday inclusive. The timetable typically involves 10 - 15 hours of lectures and classes per week with the remainder set aside for private study, coursework, project work, etc. Teaching may be scheduled any time between 09:00 and 18:00 but we try to avoid 09:00 starts. Wednesday afternoons are normally left free for sports and other recreational activities.

Part-time

Our standard MSc courses can also be studied part-time.

Please note that timetabling and scheduling constraints may have an impact on the choice of optional modules available to part-time students.

Applications for part-time study are considered on an individual basis. Admission will depend on whether the student's availability is compatible with the timetable.

Industrial placements are not generally available for part-time students. However, if a part-time student is able to undertake a full-time placement they can transfer to the full-time course for this purpose after they have completed the taught modules and project.

International Masters

International Masters courses are suitable for graduates with a good Ordinary Bachelors degree or an equivalent qualification (more about entry requirements).

The first year is equivalent to a Pre-Masters course and serves to boost students to Honour's level. The second year is equivalent to a standard MSc.

International Masters courses are only available on a full-time basis to comply with UK Border Agency visa regulations.
