CO526 Distributed Systems and Networks (15 credits)
Syllabus
- Basic communication issues in distributed systems: bandwidth (sharing
versus dedicated), layering of protocols, security, visibility, error
recovery, routing, timing and coordination, groups. Ethernet and TCP/IP will
be used as examples.
- Resource discovery in networks and distribution frameworks, e.g. DNS,
WSDL/UDDI.
- Modelling, designing and implementing distributed systems: The
client/server model, a description and comparison of middlewares (object
interaction and messaging), interfaces and streams,. An overview of web
services frameworks.
