Celebrating 50 years

The University of Kent was granted its Royal Charter on 4 January 1965 and the first undergraduate students arrived in October of that year. The 50th Anniversary celebrations begin in October 2014 and culminate in an Alumni reunion weekend in September 2015. This landmark anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate our heritage, success and ongoing contribution to knowledge that reaches across the globe.

Pride in our past

From a university that started with some 500 students and 150 staff on a greenfield (and rather muddy) site, the University of Kent has grown today into an institution of over 19,000 students and over 3,000 staff.

Inspiring your future

The 50th anniversary offers staff, students, alumni and friends of the University an opportunity to come together and celebrate everything that we have achieved. More importantly, it is a challenge to all of us to create a lasting legacy that will shape the University for the next 50 years. This is your chance to shape our future.
