The SAE Architecture Analysis and Description Language (AADL) Standard:
A Basis for Architecture-Driven Embedded Systems Engineering

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Architecture Analysis and Description Language
(AADL) is an Architecture Description Language (ADL) that has been developed to support the analysis
of embedded, real-time, safety critical systems including both hardware and software components
using various formal methods and models. AADL properties and features may be used to specify
behavioral characteristics that are used in the analysis of the system model prior to the generation of the
system. The AADL supports the generation of predictably integratable systems with the performance
qualities specified in the model. As a system evolves over time, the AADL enables the analysis of the impact
of change in an existing system that has been developed from an AADL model.
