Robot development has achieved rapid progress in the last years, however nowadays technical solutions are still far behind human abilities of general learning and environment adaptation. In Neurorobotics we transfer understanding of the human musculoskeletal system as well as learning in the central nervous system to robotic systems. As a vehicle the Neurorobotics Platform (NRP) is developed in the Human Brain Project to simulate biological muscles on virtual bodies as well as spiking neural networks for embodied closed-loop learning experiments. Transferring from biological models to technical implementations and from simulation to the real world may finally enhance robots for fluent human robot interaction.
