PhD Project Summary

Research Interests

I am a member of the following research groups:

As reflected in my research group affiliation, I am interested in the intersection of computing and education.

My background - that is, degree from Olin College - is in engineering with a concentration in computing. The curriculum at Olin is largely problem-oriented and project-based and has a strong design component, which is reflected in my beliefs about education. I am particularly interested in using design principles to develop educational experiences that take the local context into account and engage students.

I am also interested in exploring how we, as humans, make sense of our experiences; and more specifically, how students make sense of their educational experiences, how different institutions affect that process. In that regard, the field of narrative psychology has also struck a nerve with me: we construct stories to make sense of our lives, and I am curious to hear them. In terms of research methods, I focus on applying qualitative approaches in this context.
