occam-pi presently permits . characters in identifiers, which are used in the same way as _ in other languages; _ has no meaning in occam-pi, and is not permitted in identifiers. This is the opposite of virtually every other modern programming language. Removing . from the character set permitted in identifiers in favour of _ would make the language more familiar for new users, and would allow . to be reused as a namespace indicator, as is done in many other languages.
