Research

The School of Computing was ranked highly in the recent government run Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise.
Our research intensity was ranked 12th out of 89, with superb impact – 100% of our research impact ranked world leading or internationally excellent.

Head of School, Professor Frank Wang said “We are delighted that the quality of the School’s research was recognised in the very successful REF results. We now rank in the top quartile of 89 Computing departments across the country, coming 22nd for Research Power and 12th for Research Intensity. Our impact was particularly impressive, with 100% of the submission being rated 4* or 3*. The depth of research in the School is evident as we submitted nearly all eligible academic staff.”
