Research at Kent
Welcome from Peter Rodgers, Head of Research and Enterprise
Welcome to the research web pages for the School of Computing at Kent. You'll find information here about our five research groups, our research staff and students, projects that we're working on, and potential ideas for PhD research projects.
In the most recent 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) the School of Computing has performed very strongly. We have greatly improved our performance compared to the last excercise in 2008. The key indicator of research power for world leading or internationally excellent research (level 4* or 3*) puts us in the top quarter of institutions for the first time, with a rank of 22nd out of 89.
Even better is the Times Higher Education Research Intensity Measure which places the School of Computing 12th out of 89. Our research impact was especially impressive, with 100% of our submission being rated either world leading or internationally excellent. This indicates that the work in the School has considerable influence beyond academia.
This performance is particularly notable as the School of Computing submitted all full time research academics to the REF. This was an increase in the number of submitted staff to around 30, around 10% more than the 2008 excerise, showing that our research is significant in both breadth and depth.
We work in conjunction with researchers in universities and companies around the world, and if you're interested in our research do get in touch; we would be happy to work with you too.
If you're keen to pursue PhD research, each research group has suggested projects: do contact the project proposers or the head of research group to tell us that you are interested.
You can find out more about our current research by following the school news, blogs from our staff and attending our seminars which are open to everyone. You can also follow us on facebook and twitter.
Finally, we regularly host visitors from across the world who come to Kent to work with us; if you'd like to do this too, send me an email.
