Professor Shujun Li

About

Shujun Li has been Professor of Cyber Security at Kent’s School of Computing since November 2017 and is the Director of the Institute of Cyber Security for Society (iCSS), a UK government recognised Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE-CSR). In this role, Shujun leads cyber security research and education activities across the whole university.

Before joining the University of Kent, Shujun was a Deputy Director of Surrey Centre for Cyber Security (SCCS) at the University of Surrey, UK, from 2014 to 2017. 

Shujun is leading three EPSRC-funded research projects on human-centric approaches to cyber security and privacy. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed research papers at international journals and conferences and received two Best Paper Awards. In 2012, he received an ISO/IEC Certificate of Appreciation, for being the lead editor of ISO/IEC 23001-4:2011 "Information technology – MPEG systems technologies – Part 4: Codec configuration representation", the 2nd edition of the MPEG RVC (Reconfigurable Video Coding) standard.    

Shujun is currently on the editorial boards of a number of international journals and has been on the organising or technical program committees of over 100 international conferences and workshops. He is a Fellow of BCS, a Senior Member of IEEE and a Member of ACM. He is a Founding Co-Director and Vice President of the Association of British Chinese Professors (ABCP). He is on a number of advisory / steering groups including Scientific Board of Research Institute for Sociotechnical Cyber Security (RISCS), Steering Committee of International Conference on Availability, Reliability and Security (ARES), Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) as a Transactions International Advisor (TIA), EPSRC-funded SPRITE+ Hub (Security, Privacy, Identity and Trust Engagement NetworkPlus) as an Expert Fellow, International Advice Giving Panel of the interdisciplinary journal CYBERNOMICSand Advisory Boards of a couple of EU H2020 projects (TRESCA and SIMARGL).

Research interests

Shujun belongs to the following research group:

Shujun’s research interests are mostly around interdisciplinary topics covering cyber security and privacy, human factors, digital forensics and cybercrime, multimedia computing, internet measurement and social media analytics, practical applications of AI-related techniques, analysis and applications of chaotic systems implemented in digital domain. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of his research, he is actively working with researchers from other disciplines, such as Electronic Engineering, Psychology, Sociology, Law and Business.
