Venue
The Workshop will be held at Kent University, just outside the Canterbury city centre, probably England's most famous cathedral city. Canterbury is approximately an hour and a half from London and about two hours from Gatwick (London) airport. The charm of the narrow streets and period architecture, the pedestrian high street with shops of every description - today's Canterbury offers a wealth of things to see and do.
What to do when you arrive
- Ensuite Rooms - these will be located in Becket Court (which is next to Eliot College). You will be
able to access your rooms from 2pm on Wednesday 27th August. In order to get the keys to your rooms you should
go to the reception in Eliot College. All these locations can be found on the map of the University
that is linked to at the
bottom of this page (Becket Court is number 32 and Eliot College is number 31).
- Standard Rooms - these rooms will be located in Rutherford College. You will be able to access
your rooms from 2pm on Wednesday 27th August. In order to get the keys to your rooms you should go to the
reception in Rutherford College. The college can be found on the map of the University that is linked to at the bottom
of this page (Rutherford is number 28).
If you have any problems with the accommodation arrangements, you can ring Howard Bowman on the following
number - 07815-810132.
Arriving late
If you will be arriving late - 10pm or afterwards, can you firstly inform
Jenny Oatley and copy your message to
Howard Bowman. We will arrange for
your room keys to be held by campus security. Thus, if there is no porter
at the reception from which you are picking up your key, you should contact
security on an internal phone (to be found in the reception) on 3300 and they
will come over with your key.
Parking
If you intend to bring a car and wish to park it on the campus, can you firstly inform
Jenny Oatley and copy your message to
Howard Bowman. Secondly, delegates can park
in either Rutherford or Keynes colleges or alternatively in the Visitors car
parks (all these locations are marked on the map of the University that is linked to
at the bottom of this page). If you inform us that you are bringing a car, we will
organize a car parking permit for you to display and permits will be issued on
arrival when you collect the keys to your rooms.
Meals
- Breakfasts - both delegates staying in Rutherford College and Becket Court will be
served breakfast in Eliot College dining hall.
- Lunchs - all lunches will be served in Rutherford College dining hall.
Conference Venue
All talks will take place in Grimond Lecture Theatre 1. Registration and coffee breaks
will be held in Grimond Foyer. Once again the Grimond building can be located from the
map of the University below (it is number 14).
