Delivery

The class contact is one 2-hour mainly practical session each week. Three repeat classes were delivered in 2009-10 as follows:

BIT/Computing - 20 students - Monday 3-5
Software Enginnering - 18 students - Thursday 11-1
BIT/Software Engineering - 17 students - Thursday 2-4

Class Room View 1 and Class Room View 2 show perspectives of a typical teaching room. Essentially, this is a room resourced with around 20 PCs and some space for students and tutors to discuss the work. Each room is resourced with overhead projection etc.

The specific and extensive Oracle database resources for this unit are described in Databases and Tools in the Content section. Other tools (such as Eclipse, JCreator and Jude (for UML design work) are also available on the network.

Attendance was generally good through the year, but did vary between the three groups.

The actual delivery, particularly the teaching and learning approach, did inevitably vary from the intended approach. For example, the intention that the class sessions should start from students being prepared was not always realised. This is discussed further in the Evaluation section.

Could this delivery model be improved? Certainly yes, particularly in the sense of a more flexible time and physical learning space. This may be achieved in the future as the University strives towards more flexible forms of delivery (which is a key theme of its current strategic development plan).
