Abstract for Seminar

Kamaelia is an Open Source framework for building applications from communicating components. Written in python, it is a pragmatic approach, designed to make building concurrent systems easily understandable and quick to do, and hopefully fun!

BBC R&D is building Kamaelia as a toolkit for developing open large scale internet media delivery protocols and multimedia systems. But it can, of course, be used for a far wider range of applications.

I will try to explain on why on earth the BBC is interested in sofware concurrency and will describe the core technology - allowing others to use the technology for other uses. Hopefully I'll demonstrate some interesting and fun uses in the process!
