Abstract for Seminar
The seminar will present recent work on bio-inspired approaches for
evolutionary computation:
- fundamental research on evolutionary computation and
their applications (cochlear implants fitting),
- fundamental aspects of genetic programming, grammatical evolution and
new benchmarks for GP (DuoPong),
- the application of these techniques to environmental problems
(detecting the level of phytoplankton from the colour of the ocean),
but also to knowledge extraction ("Bio-inspired Classification and
Data Mining Algorithms for Bioinformatics" INTERREG project with Alex
Freitas),
- the study of ant-colony optimisation, and development of the
"man-hill" optimisation paradigm (that uses humans agents rather than
artificial ants to drive the optimisation) and its implementation on
an e-learning software used by more than 250,000 students.
