Moving Toward an Accessible Web Site
Introduction
Changes in the law in September 2002
(SENDA Act)
require that web sites are accessible by disabled users. In response to
this a number of changes have been made to the web site and a plan for
future improvements initiated. This plan is continually being amended in
the light of new regulations and guidelines, advancing technologies and
the provision of new tools and services.
Planned accessibility improvements
- Make regular assessments of the CS web site.
- Provide information in a variety of formats
- Improve finding information
- Keep informed of new developments
- Build a reservoir of expertise
Possible future accessibility improvements
- Use XML
- By separating content from presentation the integrity of
the content is maintained and it can be presented in many
different ways (adapting to different disabilities and
different media). One way of doing this is to store
information using XML (in databases) and use a variety of
translations and style sheets (XSLT/XSL) to display it.
