thanks

While the work here is presented as my own it has benefited from reviews from many other members of the Commons. Thanks are specially due to Richard Cooper and Sally Fincher for organising it.

Part of the Commons involved observing how other people teach databases. So I would like to single out Thomas Neligwa from Keele (who observed me) and Al Monger from Southampton Solent (who allowed me to observe him). Simply watching someone else do something is a very easy way to get better at it yourself.
