Databases Theme

The Databases theme was developed to provide a consistent and efficient delivery of databases on the School's courses. The areas of study below show a progressive development of topics, under the 3 broad areas indicated, from the Introduction to Databases unit at level 4 to A&DD at level 6.

The Databases theme also provides support to other themes on the courses. For example, the A&DD unit provides support (at the same level) on JDBC (and related access approaches) to the Software Development theme and XML Databases to the Internet Development theme.

Most students (currently 180) take the Introduction to Databases unit. Depending on the course, there are exit points after level 4 and level 5, resulting in the approximately 50-60 that take the A£DD unit.
