  Abstract

Data mining is a business process. The first part of this presentat ion will examine the nature of this process, the CRISP-DM process model, and the tools and techniques used by data miners, and also explode some myths about the subject.

The second part of the presentation will overview the Clementine data mining system, examine how and why it meets the needs of data miners, and describe some of the more recent additions to its capabilities.

If time permits, I will include a demonstration of Clementine. I also hope to stimulate discussion with those involved in data mining or its underlying technologies (such as machine learning).
